Berlin Day Hike: Buffalos At Schönerlinder Teiche

The Schönerlinder Teiche are an area just behind the Berlin city limits in the north. We didn’t have a lot of time but we could also have hiked the Arkenberge, which are the highest “mountains” in Berlin (incredible 120m above sea level) and in visible distance from the lakes. On this short hike – approximately five kilometers – you’ll walk through a pretty and open landscape and you’ll maybe see some water buffalos with impressing horns. Since 1876 and until the 80s the area today knewn as Schönerlinder Teiche has been part of the big natural purification plant of Berlin.
