Yeah! We made a hike after quite a while! Renovating can be quite satisfying but it can also be very, very annoying and so I was happily tricked into one day leisure activity a week. What shall I say: It’s great. Let’s do it again.

Hi Dirk, There are indeed some things you can’t do without a DSLR (or similar) camera, but more important in my opinion is something else. My DSLR is 12 years old and on other posts (e.g. this one https://hikeminded.blog/2018/07/19/brandenburg-by-boat-marvelous-muggelspree/) I only took photos with the iPhone.
In my opinion, the most important thing –and what makes the difference between a great photo and a normal one is that the photographer doesn’t take a picture of an object, but of light. It’s this awareness of light that changes all. The good thing is: You can practise and cultivate it, and it doesn’t cost a penny 🙂
Try this first, try to catch a sunbeam trough a wet tree, try to “play” the light in using a counter flash, and try it more than once. Try it before spending a lot of money on gear 🙂
Happy light catching! XX
