From 800 AD until the arrival of the spanish conquerors in the 15th century a culture called Yumbo lived in the area surrounding Tulipe. The pools they build and which have been found there – one of them only in 2004 because of aerial photography – were probably for ritual purification or their mirror has served as kind of an astronomic instrument or they just liked bathing, like we do.
