On our first day in Suffolk we rented a car and meandered from Stansted Airport to the house of my dear friend Nicky. On our way – crossing Saffron Walden – we saw this fantastic fairy tale chateau and stopped to visit it.
It is called Audley End House and it is totally worth a visit. The staff is incredibly professional and passionate which met greatly with our curiosity.

Completely breathtaking. I was very curious about the trees, do they grow in those formations or were they sculpted? Any idea? But what a beautiful castle!

Hi Phyllis, I’m not sure which photo you mean, but I guess the one with the giant hedge. This is a traditional british skill: Cutting hedges in strange forms 🙂

I wondered as I’ve seen some wonderful hedges in the shapes of Disney characters and cats elephants etc. My eyes not being what they once were, I can’t see any specific shapes, but I know they have shape so I thought I’d ask 🙂 I love gardens and sculpture and so much more and your photos were so beautiful. I’m the original arm chair traveller and I visit every site I can find with pictures of far away lands. I have added you to FVD Speed Dial so I won’t lose you now.
